Worcester Music Festival has announced that it will support local charity, Herefordshire and Worcestershire MND Association, at this year’s event, taking place Friday 13th – Sunday 15th September.
The festival, held annually across 20 diverse venues in Worcester’s bustling city centre, draws in over 200 talented artists entertaining thousands of attendees, all while supporting local causes.
Selecting this year’s charity was a difficult decision for the festival committee, but the impactful work of the H&W MND Association resonated deeply with our dedicated team of volunteers.
Hereford & Worcester MND Association is run entirely by volunteers and aims to provide the best possible support to local people with MND, their families, and carers. The group’s fundraising provides grants for accessibility aids such as stairlifts and mobility scooters, while also providing support for carers and family members.
Amanda Devlin, Regional Fundraiser at H&W MND Association, comments:
“We here at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire MND Group are thrilled to be the chosen charity for the Worcester Music Festival. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a fatal rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, attacking the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work.
“It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis. It’s a devastating disease that affects more than 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time and kills six people every day. There is no cure. With the support of the Worcester Music Festival, we can continue to help many local people living with and affected by Motor Neurone Disease, for which, we are extremely grateful.”
Ant Robbins, Director of Worcester Music Festival, expressed,
“Each year, our festival endeavours to extend support to our local communities where it’s needed most, so we’re delighted to be fundraising for H&W MND Association this year.
“To help us make the biggest impact possible, we’re calling out for artists and musicians spanning every genre to perform at the festival. Every year, we are privileged to welcome hundreds of talented musicians who generously donate their time to champion and uphold the causes vital to our local area.”
Musicians are invited to apply to play at the event through an online application form. A curated line-up is then meticulously selected by local promoters, a thoughtful curation that process has consistently drawn large crowds of both fans and passers-by.
The three-day annual festival has solidified its status as a beloved staple among music enthusiasts throughout the region, prompting intense competition among performers vying for a spot. Last year, over 200 performances electrified various venues across Worcester, including established music hubs, pubs, a tattoo studio, a barber shop, and the city’s esteemed art gallery and museum.
