Worcester Music Festival has now opened applications for the WMF charity of the year 2017. Local charities are invited to apply to become the chosen charity to be supported during the festival weekend from 15th to 17th September 2017. They will receive all money raised for the duration of the festival and will have their profile raised within the festival guide and through extensive social media marketing.
Applications must be in by the 31st December for a chance to benefit from the fundraising at the festival which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2017.
Nicola Boraston, Festival Director explained,
” The amount of applications vary from year to year and it’s a really difficult decision to choose from all the worthy causes that are based around the region so the committee decide by a voting system. We are looking for local charities that we can help with projects, help raise awareness and raise funds during the festival. It does not necessarily have to be music related. “
Last year’s charity of choice was Acorns Children’s Hospice, based in the City who were presented with a cheque for over £4000 towards their music therapy unit. Fundraising officer Gemma Timmis stated,
” The festival was fantastic this year and created such a buzz in the city. It was so good to be a part of such a brilliant event and we’re so grateful to the organisers for choosing to support Acorns. “
In the past, the Festival has supported an eclectic mix of charities including Worcestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre, New Hope, Maggs Day Centre and Worcester Young Carers. This being its 10th anniversary, it is set to be bigger and better than ever with the committee already working towards the next festival, which will run over three days with over 200 live acts and workshops at over 20 different venues, providing a weekend during which the city buzzes with free live music of varying genres.
